StartUp Founders: When Documenting Your Journey, Share What Truly Matters To Your Audience

February 28, 2023 2 mins read

As a startup founder, documenting your journey can be an insightful and valuable process. However, it’s important to focus on the content that truly matters and resonates with your audience. While sharing where you get your matcha latte or showcasing your beautifully organized Notion template may be interesting to some, it’s not necessarily the type of content that offers real value or demonstrates the challenges and triumphs of entrepreneurship.

Instead, consider sharing the critical aspects of your business, such as your current revenue, cash flow, and key milestones you need to achieve by specific quarters. Discuss the strategies you’re implementing to reach these goals, the assumptions you’re making, and the tools you’ll be using. By offering a transparent look into your journey, you can inspire and educate other founders facing similar challenges.

Steve Blank, the Silicon Valley entrepreneur and pioneer of the Lean Startup movement, once said, “You’re not building a product; you’re learning to build a business.” Reflecting this mindset in your content can make a substantial impact on your audience, providing them with the knowledge and understanding necessary to navigate their own startup journey. So, instead of focusing on the trivial aspects of your day-to-day life, concentrate on the decisions, strategies, and progress that shape the course of your startup’s success.
